The Albert Gallatin Area School District is located in the southwestern portion of Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It is named after Albert Gallatin who was the former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, planner of the Lewis and Clark expedition, engineer of the financial details of the Louisiana Purchase and founder of New York University.
The school district serves the boroughs of Masontown, Fairchance, Point Marion, and Smithfield. It also serves German, Springhill, Georges, and Nicholson townships. The district includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one senior high school.
