Important AGASD News
Device Usage and State Assessments

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) takes extensive measures to ensure the security and validity of state assessment materials. If a student is caught photographing, copying or sharing any portion of the material contained on a PSSA or Keystone Exam, fines could result in up to $30,000 for a single violation.

The possession of cell phones, Apple watches, cameras, E-readers, Nooks, Kindles, iPods, tablets and any devices that have the capability to record or duplicate images is strictly prohibited during test administration. No recording device of any kind should be on the child when in the testing room. Test administrators are required to collect all such devices from students upon entry to a testing room and must store the devices securely until all test materials have been collected and returned to the school’s test coordinator.

All violations must be reported to PDE. Due to the extensive provision of prior notification on these test security rules, this type of violation constitutes a Level 3 offense in the Albert Gallatin Area School District—whether or not test material is compromised. Any student who is found to be in possession of a recording device during the administration of a state assessment faces a 4-10 day suspension due to insubordination, and fines will be presented to the offending student as dictated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Please assist us in making sure that all students understand the severity of the penalties involved. Thank you.

Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee Members:

Extension of Comprehensive Plan Deadline

Act 118 of 2016 amended the Public School Code to provide all school entities one additional year to submit to the LEA’s Comprehensive Plan to the Secretary of Education. The one year extension applies to all component plans subsumed under the Comprehensive Plan (e.g., Special Education Plan, Professional Education Plan).

The new due date for AGASD’s Comprehensive Plan is November 30, 2018.

The new due date for AGASD’s Special Education Plan is May 1, 2018.

As a result, both the February 9th and May 4th Comprehensive Planning Steering Committee Meetings will be postponed until planning resumes in the Fall of 2017.

Preparing for a Workforce Transformation (see video below)

The Allegheny Conference on Workforce Development conducted an in-depth study on the supply, demand, and future of work in the 10 county region surrounding Pittsburgh.  The Inflection Point study forecasts an upcoming workforce transformation and its implications for employers, educators, and workforce talent.

This video highlights how the Albert Gallatin Area School District and the Fayette Business Education Partnership are working in tandem to utilize the Inflection Point findings to shape workforce preparation.

The video was featured at the Allegheny Conference’s Annual Meeting at the Carnegie Music Hall on November 9, 2016. A copy of the Inflection Point Study can be obtained here:  http://www.alleghenyconference.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/InflectionPoint.pdf
